Our Photo-Diary: Autumn 2009

Dear George,

We’ve had a busy and eventful autumn so far.  Here are a few pictorial highlights.

As usual, our recent everyday life has revolved around the dogs, and late autumn weather is just about perfect in their view.  Our sheepdog family includes Donna's Sophie as well as Mike, and Duffy, and the three dogs have gone on lots of recent outings to city and county parks (Miami Whitewater, Mt. Airy, Fernbank, etc.)   Here's Katja with the pack on Ludlow Ave. (from the left, Mike, Duffy, Sophie).

For the human beings, Halloween was a highlight again this year.  The Social Service department at CABVI goes all out when costume festivities come around.  This year they became the swine flu.  From the left: Adrianne, Kathy, Chuck (the doctor), Donna, and Katja.  They won second prize, though they were definitely the most creative.

Our friend Karen Feinberg was one of the artists at a recent opening at St. John’s Unitarian Church.  Here she is with some of her drawings (to the right) plus mobiles overhead (not visible).  Thanks to regular showings by Karen and Bill (who is a prolific sculptor), we have gotten more artsy these days.

Our Tuesday night line dancing class got in the Halloween spirit as well.  I’m the masked cowboy at the left.  Katja (swine flu angel) and Donna (angel only) are seated at the lower right.  Instructor Jeff stands behind them, and assistant Sherry is #9 (Carson Palmer).

Katja and I are in the process of mastering cha-cha moves.  Looks like we have it down pat

November is the beginning of the indoor flea market season, and Phyllis S-S and I took in the Flea-n-Tique at the Dayton Fairgrounds.  As you can see, it is full of a remarkable quantity of stuff, all at bargain basement prices.

We also discovered that Mom’s Diner is one of Dayton’s culinary highlights.  As we walked to the door, I asked a grizzled old guy if Mom’s was any good, and he said he drives 70 miles each week from Springfield just to get their special.

Probably because of overdoing it on the machines at the Fitness Center, I’ve been plagued with aching shoulder muscles for two months and have spent a lot of time in the warm water pool.  This is Kelly’s 3:00 arthritis plus class, with members decked out in Halloween headgear.

Katja prepared a most enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner party.  Clockwise from the center front are Donna, Chuck, Eleanor, Sam, Anna, and Mazal.  It was a gregarious and friendly group and made for a memorable holiday.

All our friends rave about Katja’s elegant table settings, and this holiday was no exception.

The dogs, of course, enjoyed the party and were especially attracted to the leftovers.

After working, line dancing, and days of preparing a big party, Katja was pretty tired out.  The dogs, though their life is pretty leisurely, are always happy to join her.

Love,
Dave
